Marketing Assistant Internship

About the Role

Fredericksburg Technology is looking for a creative and tech-curious Marketing Assistant Intern to help us tell our story on social media. This part-time role puts you in the field alongside our technicians — on low voltage installations, structured cabling runs, camera system deployments, and IT service calls — capturing the behind-the-scenes moments that make our work compelling and educational for a public audience.

You’ll be responsible for filming and producing short-form video content, primarily Instagram Reels, that showcase what we do in an engaging, approachable way. The goal is to educate viewers, build brand awareness, and highlight the technology capabilities that make Fredericksburg Technology stand out. This is a hands-on role — you’ll be at job sites, in server rooms, and in the field regularly.

A genuine interest in technology is strongly preferred. You don’t need to be an IT professional, but you should be comfortable asking questions, learning on the fly, and communicating what you’re seeing to an audience that may be encountering these concepts for the first time.

Key Responsibilities

• Accompany field technicians on low voltage and IT service jobs to capture content
• Film and edit short-form video for Instagram Reels and other social media platforms
• Create behind-the-scenes, step-by-step, and educational content around installations and IT services
• Develop content that explains technology — structured cabling, fiber, access control, cameras, managed IT, VoIP, and more — in a clear, engaging way for general audiences
• Assist with planning and scheduling a consistent content calendar
• Write captions, apply relevant hashtags, and post content according to the content calendar
• Monitor engagement on published content and report basic performance metrics
• Collaborate with leadership to brainstorm content ideas and campaigns

Requirements

• Comfortable on camera and confident directing short video shoots in the field
• Hands-on experience shooting and editing short-form video (Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or similar)
• Reliable transportation to travel to job sites in the Fredericksburg region
• Strong communication skills and a professional presence on client sites
• Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently
• Must be available for occasional early-morning or weekday field shoots aligned with our job schedule

Strongly Preferred

• Genuine interest or passion in technology, IT, or low voltage systems
• Familiarity with Instagram, TikTok, or LinkedIn content strategy
• Experience with mobile editing apps (CapCut, Adobe Premiere Rush, InShot, etc.)
• Photography skills and an eye for compelling composition
• Current enrollment in or recent completion of a marketing, communications, or related program
